Paige and Roxie

Back in April I had the ultimate way out west experience in Phoenix, Arizona, when I did this shoot with this badass target shooting boss babe! I’m always trying to expand my experiences as a photographer, and this shoot definitely stretched me a bit. Not only was it my first time taking shots of someone who was handy with a gun, I was also dealing with a lot of harsh lighting.

It was the middle of the day and so it was hot as hell. You can bet the sun was reflecting off those guns, but it made for some unique photos. Everything I learned about gun safety was screaming “danger! danger!” every time I had her point the gun at me for a photo. I knew they were empty, but it still felt super wrong to have a gun pointing directly at me. I can honestly say, the discomfort was definitely worth it. Wouldn’t you agree?

The best part of the whole shoot was having her charge full speed directly at me with her gun in hand. It was pretty exhilarating. This is just one example of how to make a shoot unique. Every discipline has room for unique angles and photo options. Even if you don’t handle a gun from the back of a horse, I can come up with some pretty interesting ways to showcase your talents.
